CREATING A COOKBOOK

RECIPE COLLECTION and SUBMISSION

Recipe Collection

Cookbook Originals has developed a standard recipe form to assist in recipe collection (available in the starter kit or it can be downloaded). However, use of our form is not a requirement, as we accept recipes in various formats. Recipes should be read through for completeness. We will typeset the recipes as they are submitted (correcting only obvious errors).

There are two requirements to collecting recipes:

  1. Recipes must be legible (either neatly handwritten or typed).
  2. The ingredients must be separated from the directions.

Keys to successful Recipe Collection:

  • Collect recipes from as many different individuals as possible, rather than many recipes from a few individuals. These are the same individuals who will later purchase the cookbook.
  • Make sure you can read the Recipe Donor Name (it is disappointing to a Recipe donor if their name is misspelled).
  • Be innovative with Recipe Titles. People look for titles that highlight fun and excitement.

Recipe Submission

Once recipes have been collected, they should be sorted into the appropriate category (appetizers, main dishes, desserts, etc.). All of the recipes for an individual category should be placed in a large envelope (we provide "Category Envelopes" in our Starter Kit). The envelope should indicate:

  • Name of Organization
  • Category Title
  • Number of recipes in the envelope
  • Order (or position) of each category. In what order you would like the categories to be typed. (For example, many cookbooks start with appetizers. Therefore, the envelope would be marked with position one.)

Recipes may also be submitted in a computer file. We can accept recipes that have been typed in Microsoft Word or Works and we can accept Acrobat Reader files. Other formats may be acceptable.

Please note, only computer files that are camera ready and require no adjusting or reformatting are eligible for any pricing discount.
